About

Sherri Jean McCulloch

Sherri is an intuitive artist working largely in acrylic and mixed media. Time and place deeply influence the result of her work. Stylistically, her paintings are playful, joyful, colorful, often philosophical and always multi-layered. Sherri received her B.Ed. at the University of Victoria, her M.A. at Royal Roads University and her Art Training via coursework at the University of Victoria, through exceptional mentors, and though ongoing daily practice and play.

In 2018, Sherri was chosen to be an Artist in Residence at Chateau Orquevaux, Champagne, France. It was a life changing experience that invited connection with artists all over the world. It was here that Sherri began collecting an painting her story on the stories of French women who had washed, starched and carefully preserved their quintessentially French linens.

The following April, Sherri was chosen to be Artist in Residence in Nerac, France at Studio Faire. This was a different sort of residency that allowed her to study place, and create more art in her French Linen series.

While Sherri was accepted for a return to Chateau Orquevaux for the month of November 2020, that autumnal trip was postponed until October 2022 due to the Covid pandemic. During this residency, Sherri’s work on the French linens took a different path to more closely tell her personal story by incorporating the laundry room of the Chateau, and the idea that residencies such as these offer artists an intangible yet palpable life line.

Sherri’s art incorporates her lived experiences of work, family, nature, travel and friendships into colorful, lively scenarios. Nature and whimsical animals are a common theme.

Her work can be found in exhibits in the Cowichan Valley and Nanaimo and on Instagram. She has exhibited at juried shows in Victoria, Sooke, and Chetwynd, BC.

Commissions are accepted.
